Flame Chevron Stitch - Galaxy Green Infinity Scarf

Haven't knit anything in quite a while! Boo! One of my projects this year is to slowly, but surely, use up my stash of old yarn (so I can make way for new yarn!), because I have a problem when it comes to yarn. Once I see a colour I adore at a yarn store like Michaels, I will grab it and hold on to it the same way that some book lovers pile up books they never read (which, on a side not, is a phenomenon called tsundoku in Japanese).

So, onward march, young knitter. Here is a new project I completed for a friend while simultaneously listening to an audiobook by Emily St. John Mandel called Station Eleven (it's awesome -- read it!): an infinity scarf in a nice galaxy green colour (with glitter!). It is also a belated Christmas present...REALLY belated @~@

As always, to prevent the possibility of edges curling, I added a knit border throughout.

Materials:
-knitting needles, size 6.5 mm or US 10.5
-steel yarn needles, size 7cm (for sewing finished ends together)
-3 balls of Premier Yarns Deborah Norville Collection Serenity Chunky Glitter yarn (galaxy green; 85m/ball)

This pattern is knitted in a multiple of 7 + 4 stitches and a 24 row repeat.

k = knit
p = purl
yo = yarn over
k2tog = knit 2 together
ssk = slip slip knit

The scarf I knit is about 9 inches wide and 41 inches long before I sewed the ends together.

Cast on 42 stitches.

Row 1-5: knit all stitches
Row 6 and all even numbered rows: k5, purl until 5 last stitches, k5
Row 7: k3, * ssk, k5, yo; repeat from * to last st, k1
Row 9: k3, * ssk, k4, yo, k1; repeat from * to last st, k1
Row 11: k3, * ssk, k3, yo, k2; repeat from * to last st, k1
Row 13: k3, * ssk, k2, yo, k3; repeat from * to last st, k1
Row 15: k3, * ssk, k1, yo, k4; repeat from * to last st, k1
Row 17: k3, * ssk, yo, k5; repeat from * to last st, k1
Row 19: k1, * yo, k5, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 21: k1, * k1, yo, k4, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3
Row 23: k1, * k2, yo, k3, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3
Row 25: k1, * k3, yo, k2, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3
Row 27: k1, * k4, yo, k1, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3
Row 29: k1, * k5, yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3

Repeat rows 6 - 29 until desired length is reached, then knit the next five rows, cast off, and sew the ends together.

Here is an image that shows the flame chevron pattern nicely:

And the finished product laid out horizontally and vertically. I hope you can see some of the glitter :D
